The Heshoo Beshoo Group – Armitage Road (Columbia – 2 C 062 - 80842 - France - 1971)
€350.00 / Sold Out
Minty French pressing of ultra rare South African jazz masterpiece from 1970. This is an essential Cape Jazz / soul-jazz album led by Henry Sithole, founder of famous SA jazz band the Drive along other members of the group.
I can't pick a favorite tracks as every tunes from this album is just spendid. A perfect overview between American hard bop with danceable South African grooves.
Special mention for the sleeve Inspired by The Beatles’ Abbey Road, which had been released one year earlier in 1969, the cover shows the jazz quintet crossing an unpaved street in Orlando, a township of Soweto. Guitarist Cyril Magubane, stricken with polio from the waist down since childhood, sits in his wheelchair !
Big up to Thomas aka Bobwall formerly known as French Attack from Listen record store for putting the light on this record. And special thanks to my friend Nico aka Konilegaucher for offering me this record 16 years ago as a birth gift for my son !
Here is a perfect spare stock copy from the now defunct dead stock !
Record looks NM (very light storage warp nothing serious, plays NM) / Sleeve is NM very close to Mint.
