Michel Marre - Fanny (Private - 1987)

We just received some stock copies of this underrated little known album by Michel Marre (Cossi Anatz / Intercommunal Free Dance Orchestra) he privately recorded in 1987 with 2 percussionists Lahcen Hilari (Cossi Anatz) & Azzedine Amara while Michel plays Trumpets / Tubas / Piano / Bass and Accordion.

While the sleeve looks more like an odd synth pop Lp than spiritual jazz don’t be misunderstood this Fanny is clearly a superb World Jazz record. could be considered as a follow up to the great Cossi Anatz (we have repressed in 2017).

Don’t miss out « Djerba » with this head nodding derbuka pattern and sharp and clear trumpet solo ... so deep. « Matansa » on B side is another winner with an insane accordion hook starting like a cumbia tune, even reminding me the intro of Kassav zouk classic "Mwen Malad Aw" !
