Orlando Julius – Disco Hi-Life (Jofabro – JILP 1004 - Nigeria - 1979)

Orlando Julius, active since the end of the 1950s, is one of the first to merge highlife – popular music in Nigeria and Ghana – with jazz and funk, then disco. For more than twenty years, he toured in the United States, with Hugh Masekela and Lamont Dozier. Orlando also claims authorship of a musical sequence from the song “Going Back To my Roots” by Lamont which would be largely inspired, he explains in a documentary, by his guitar playing in the song “Ashiko”. Disco Hi-Life is certainly one of the best Afro disco ever recorded !
